The Kirk at Markethill

This booklet, written by Jim Reaney and published in 1981, traces the life and witness of the First and Second Markethill congregation from its humble beginnings in 1693. Over the years, with God’s help, it has continued to faithfully proclaim the Gospel, giving hope and guidance to its members in times of great danger and uncertainty. The story unfolds to a turbulent background which includes religious persecution, land tenure disputes, large scale emigration, the 1798 rebellion, the Home Rule crisis, two World Wars and many periods of economic depression.
