MAY

May usually brings with it promised days of heat and sunshine. Certainly we are enjoying a spell of good weather. Sometimes we hear people say they feel so much better when the weather is nice. If only that were the case, if the weather could determine whether we are stress or depressed or not.

I recently heard this tale….

A man went to his doctor, complaining of constant headaches. The doctor asked him if he smoked.

“Yes, I do,” said the fellow.

“Well, stop smoking,” suggested the doctor.

So he stopped, but the headaches persisted. He went back.

“Do you drink?”

“Yes, I drink considerably.”

So he stopped. The headaches persisted.

“Are you engaged in physical labour that would in some way put pressure on your back?”

“Yes, I am.”

“Quit your job.”

He quit his job and took another position, but his headaches persisted.  Everyday in pain pulsed through his head.

Finally they discovered he was wearing size 15 collar on a size 16 neck.  No wonder he had a headache!

Superficial problems call for superficial solutions.  But real life isn’t like that; its headaches and stress go deeper, right down to the bone.  They touch the nerve areas of our security.  But God says He is a present help in trouble.  Go ahead, read Psalm 46.  See God’s strength through times of stress.
